What to consider when choosing a Sweet Cart for your wedding

Our podcast which discussed the pro’s and considerations of having a sweet cart at your wedding actually brought up some fascinating points and I thought we should delve in to the subject a lot more.

I think the first thing is naturally the entertainment value, as it helps create an interactive experience for all your guests. This would include all ages and cultures too, as you could include the nostalgic sweets from years ago, or even opt for an American style sweet, all are very good to get your guests at the wedding talking and reminiscing. We find liquorice can be quite a conversation starter as some guests will hate it, while others will love it.

It can’t go unsaid that it will also add to the decor of your venue adding visual appeal, whether it be the wedding breakfast or just the wedding reception. Sweet carts or even sweet tables can be decorated to suit the theme of your wedding and help create a photo opportunity. I know wedding photographers love to have prop aids like this to help produce to photo ideas throughout the wedding day.

Also, who doesn’t like sweets, it entertains the guests especially during the downtime periods when venues are turning round the rooms. They can help themselves throughout the day. Couples in the past have utilised the sweet carts in different ways too. It doesn’t just have to display sweets, as it can display, cakes, wedding favours ands even Prosecco.

It’s important to look at the full argument of whether to include a sweet cart on your special day. We have looked into the pros, as we have done before but in the Podcast there were some considerations to think about.

The main one is the logistics. You need to think about when it is to be delivered and for what part of the day. Some brides don’t wish to see their guests getting up and down during the wedding receptions to fill theirs mouths with sweets. If they do want it all day, how is the cart maintained? Not only do you not want the sweets to run out but you don’t want a mess in one corner of your wedding venue of bags and sweets all over the floor.

To counter this we obviously have years of experience in sweet carts and offer exciting packages for most scenarios to ensure that you and your wedding guests have enough sweets. Venues are very good and well rehearsed at keeping areas tidy. They themselves don’t want it to reflect on them. We never over supply the bags and scoops are provided which all helps maintain the area. Guests on the whole are very respectful of wedding decoration.

I suppose we have to discuss the expense of such an item. Wedding are very expensive as we all know and it is obviously the added extra to a party so only really add a sweet cart if within the budget. There is no point breaking yourself financially to entertain some guests. However there is affordable packages and it is a rigid pricing so there is no extra add on costs once agreed.

We have to remember that wedding venues get very hot, so chocolate is advised against and fudge as well. We can provide this but I think it is something that definitely needs to be considered. Also if you are having a marquee wedding the sun shining through the windows can literally melt the sweets so a shaded area is vital when locating the sweet cart.

Dietary requirements is a huge consideration too. We never include anything with nut traces and we cater for vegetarian, vegan and those wanting halal sweets. It’s important that you as the couple speak to your wedding guests and determine what requirements are needed. We can either cater a full cart as vegan for example or maybe just provide 3 jars that are well labelled. We have a certified 5 star kitchen and store the sweets in a correct matter to ensure sweets are always fresh and in date.

A decision needs to be made about the sweet or candy bags, and whether you want to personalise them. This can often be done by us or even the stationary person you maybe using who are creating your table planner. Sweet bags as standard are normally in white, brown or clear. If the sweet cart is coloured then we can have a striped sweet bag to match.

Delivery of the sweet carts is always arranged with your wedding venue to ensure a smooth process so the delivery men aren’t carrying items through your wedding party. Any sweets left over at the end of the night are bagged and left with your stuff at the venue. Sweet carts will be collected after the wedding party and again will be sorted with the wedding venue itself.
